International Project “SegniSeed”

Consultancy on service design for the municipality of Segni (Rome), (2013).

The project stems from a series of initiatives that the International Society of Biourbanism - ISB has been developing and promoting for one year under the names “Project Artena” and “Project Lepus”, in the area of the Lepini Mountains, in the province of Rome, starting from the town of Artena.

The municipality of Segni (province of Rome) has shown a special interest in the biourbanism approach to local development and has proposed to ISB a research work aimed at analysing potentialities and criticalities of the urban context in strategic and scientific terms and at expressing the desires of the population, in order to improve, in the long term, quality of life.

An international group of experts and professionals from diverse backgrounds and experience worked in the project, during a week of immersion/exploration that took place locally from 14th to 20th July 2013, in collaboration with citizens and the public administration.

In the SegniSeed team we can mention: Yulia Kryazheva and Stefano Serafini (project coordinator), Angelo Abbate, Angelica Fortuzzi, Angelo Gentili, Lorenzo Lucchini, Guglielmo Minervino, Marco Navarra, Sebastian Olma, Shauna Jin, Perrine Rousselet, Isabella T. Steffan, Christiaan Zandstra.

As part of this team, the group which focused on the theme of "Design for All" for Segni was coordinated by Isabella T. Steffan.
From the exchange of views between citizens and the local government, accessibility “for All” emerged as a driving theme in the heart of the city (museum and cathedral), which, however, would require a minimum financial investment; the suggestion is to continue with the restoration and valorisation of the path of the Cyclopean walls, with a project of visitability “for All” and participatory maintenance, and with a project of diversified reception.

SegniSeed has been important for a first collection/classification of information, and the process will continue in the following months, with the identification of the “seeds”, the construction of a more elaborated and articulated vision and its gradual implementation.
