Consultancy on accessibility of the restoration of an existing building for the new Rehabilitation Centre (2008-2009).
Isabella Steffan has been a consultant on accessibility issues in the framework of a project for the restoration of an existing building for the new Rehabilitation Centre of Legnano (MI) via Colli di Sant'Erasmo. It consists of a huge triangle-shaped park, in which there is the main building and a two-storey building in its northern part.
The main squared building consists of two storeys above ground and an underground floor (about 615 square meters of covered surface) and two side wings, with one ground floor and one basement flat (about 1.500 square meters of covered surface).
In order to create the multi-service Centre, the main building has undergone several necessary modifications: the main goal has been to maintain the original aspect of the external building, and to design the internal parts according to the new purpose and to modern legislation and quality standards.
The project for the interior design focuses on the coherence between technical and technological issues and the maintenance of the typical architectural features.
The project for the interior design matching the new needs, paid attention to the technical and technological issued balancing with the typical architectonical ones. For example the walls dividing the windows in half have been eliminated, false ceilings at different levels have been added, and niches have been created where some doors have been removed (arch.
